If you love to cook meats but can’t seem to cook it right. You either ending up over cooking it or sometimes, under cooking. Check out this review of the MEATER Thermometer. The MEATER comes in two types. The MEATER and the MEATER+. I ended up opting for the MEATER+ thermometer because the only difference I saw between the MEATER and MEATER+ was the range distance. The MEATER thermometer has a wireless range of 33ft while the MEATER+ has a wireless range of 165ft. Everything else seems to to be the same, like the number of sensors in the probe.

Setup

Setup is super easy so long as you follow the directions. I missed a step and the probe did not sync up with the block right away. The back of the block has two magnets and the battery backing is also magnetic. The battery is a one AAA that can recharge the probe 100 times. Also, there is a little tab that prevents battery contact during delivery you will have to remove. You will have to download the MEATER app to sync the block and probe to the app. Once you run through the set up, you can remove the probe from the block and you should see the light flash green. That means the probe and the block are synced together.

The button on the block, when pushed, tells you the state of the battery. Solid green means the probe is charged.

App

The app is easy to use. It has many different features such as cooking instructions, but the main focus is the temperature readings. Before you begin to cook, you can pick from the multiple list of different types of meat or specify your own you want to cook. It will also give you a list of different temperatures or also specify your own. Once you insert the probe into the meat, you can start cooking. The app will tell you the internal temperature, the target temperature, the ambient temperature, as well as how many minutes are remaining. It will also alert you when the time gets to 5 minutes.

The Meat

I bought this thermometer because I cooked meat beyond the target temperature thus resulting in a well-well done steak. This thing took out the guess work and the results were phenomenal. I used the MEATER on flat iron steaks (curiosity of Butcher Box) and wow! These steaks came out at a nice 154° Fahrenheit, so juicy and tender. They had a nice red color to them. At first I was a little skeptical because I did not have anything to compare to what the low end of medium well looks likes. Regardless, the meat turned out perfect. Needless to say, that thermometer did its job. For once, I did not have overcooked meat! The wireless functionality worked perfectly as you do not have to keep opening the lid to check the meat. You can just leave them there to cook.

I would recommend picking one of these up if you love to cook and want to take the guess work out of the equation. If you are interested, both the MEATER and MEATER+ are listed below.
