If you happen to be in the city of Keflavik in Iceland and are searching for a great place to dine, I strongly recommend checking out Antons Mamma Mia restaurant. Situated on the intersection of Hafnargata and Aðalgata, this restaurant is conveniently located within walking distance of many hotels in the area. The atmosphere, food, and service at Antons Mamma Mia are all exceptional, making it a top-notch dining option.

Ambiance and Setting at Antons Mamma Mia

Antons Mamma Mia boasts a bar-like atmosphere with dim lighting, although the large windows at the front of the restaurant create a different feel during the day. Iceland’s best is showcased on the TVs hung on the walls, while an impressive map is displayed prominently. The non-standing bar area doubles as a payment counter and features alcohol along the back wall, with wine glasses hanging overhead. Exposed wooden beams line the ceiling, and industrial-style lampshades lend a gritty, underground feel. Although the seating area appears somewhat small, it is long with tables on either side of a central walkway, creating a seamless flow with dark hues and colorful tables. The food served is just as delectable as the ambiance suggests.

Culinary Delights Offered

Although I only needed a table for one, if you’re interested in why I dined solo, feel free to check out my travel blog. Unfortunately, my solo status meant that I wasn’t able to try a lot of the menu options. Nevertheless, one particular dish shone above the rest: the Pasta Spaghetti Lobster & Shrimp. As someone in search of both seafood and pasta, this dish was the perfect combination.

Lobster and shrimp pasta

Wow, was that fantastic! The flavors of the Pasta Spaghetti Lobster & Shrimp dish were exceptional, and the seafood was juicy and succulent. As anticipated, the dish was slightly expensive due to the addition of seafood, but this was not surprising as seafood dishes in the United States are typically more costly. The price of the dish was around 4,300 Icelandic króna, which equates to roughly 31 USD. Although the price may appear steep, the majority of the other menu items at Antons Mamma Mia cost between 20 and 30 USD. The restaurant has an extensive menu, offering pizza & calzone, pasta dishes, seafood, steaks, burgers, salads, and a kids menu. With a wide variety of options to choose from, you are sure to find something that will satisfy your appetite.

Exceptional Service and a Unique Touch

A map of the world on a wall where you place pins, with flags of the country, where you have been.

The service provided by my waitress was exceptional. In addition to her impeccable service, we engaged in a conversation about the linguistic history of Iceland and she was curious about my place of origin. Upon discovering that I was from Maryland, she directed my attention to a large map on the wall adorned with tiny flags. She informed me that no one from Maryland had ever visited before and proceeded to show me the Maryland flag, after which she gifted me a small pin. I placed the pin on Maryland’s location on the map, said our goodbyes and continued with my evening as my flight left the next morning.
