Tucked just off Highway 40 in middle Tennessee is Log Cabin Restaurant in Hurricane Mills, TN, a rustic stop that locals and road-trippers alike have probably driven past. Situated just north of Lobelville, it’s in a prime location for a quick bite, a long lunch, or just somewhere to unwind if you’re passing through the area.

I recently visited this spot and—spoiler alert—it was damn good, but came with a few surprises I wasn’t expecting. Here’s my honest, firsthand experience eating at Log Cabin Restaurant in Hurricane Mills, TN.

First Impressions of Log Cabin Restaurant Hurricane Mills TN

Walking in, the Southern charm hits you immediately. We’re talking deer heads on the wall, a corner gift shop near the hostess stand, and those homemade pies chilling in a fridge, just begging to be taken home. It’s a scaled-down version of Cracker Barrel with more personality and less corporate polish and honestly, I prefer it that way.

The space is open and well-lit during the day, especially in the front corridor where we were seated. It felt homey, not touristy, which is rare for a place just off a highway.

The People Make the Place

Our waitress? Fantastic. Friendly, helpful, and didn’t make us feel rushed at all. What stood out even more were the other diners, people chatting with the staff like old friends, swapping stories from the road or the farm. It felt like a gathering place, not just a restaurant.

Let’s Talk About the Food

We went all in, no regrets. Here’s what we ordered and what stood out.

Starters

  • Blooming Onion – Meh. Standard. Came with a dipping sauce that was fine, but nothing memorable.
  • Fried Jalapeños – 🔥🔥🔥. These were the MVP of the appetizers. Crispy, spicy, and dipped in a cool ranch-style sauce that balanced it perfectly.

Mains

Her Order:

  • Fried shrimp
  • Baked potato
  • Hush puppies
  • (Forgotten) Side salad

She said the shrimp were tender and tasty, though a bit heavy on the breading. The potato was baked to perfection, and the hush puppies did their job. That salad? Never made it to the table. We didn’t even realize until later.

My Order:

  • Cajun chicken pasta

That chicken? Melt-in-your-mouth tender with great Cajun flavor. The pasta itself lacked the same punch, but overall it was still a solid plate. We both had leftovers, enough for a couple meals at home.

Drinks:

  • Sweet tea + water served in oversized mason jars. Fitting, Southern, and appreciated.

Now, the Price Tag

Let’s talk numbers because this part stopped me in my tracks. For two people and four plates of food, the bill came to over $70. That’s not a typo. I haven’t spent that much on dinner since Devon Seafood & Steak in Hershey, PA… and the difference is, at Devon’s, I expected it.

Was the food good? Absolutely.
So, was it worth $70+?

To break it down: we ended up with enough food for two meals each, so four meals total. But here’s the catch — my girlfriend only got about six shrimp and didn’t have any leftovers. So let’s be generous and knock $22 off the total for her part of the meal.

That leaves $50 for three meals. Do the math, and that’s still around $16.66 per meal — and remember, only one of those was a full entrée. The rest were partial leftovers.

Even when stretching it with logic, you’re still paying sit-down steakhouse prices in the middle of rural Tennessee, and for what is ultimately diner-style Southern food.

Delicious? Yes.
Overpriced? Without a doubt.

I get that they might be pricing for highway travelers, but it felt a little out of sync with the local economy. If you’re expecting a budget-friendly country meal, this isn’t quite that.

Will I Go Back?

Eventually, yeah, but I need to let my wallet recover first. If you look at it as $50 over four meals (leftovers included), it softens the blow. But when your girlfriend gets six shrimp and no leftovers… that math doesn’t math.
