Worth A Visit

Good food, but not a worth the trip alone

If you’re searching for a real Soda Pop Junction review, here’s the straight answer: this is one of those sleeper spots that doesn’t look like much from the outside, but absolutely delivers where it matters.

Located in the small town of Lynnville (population around 300), Soda Pop Junction is the kind of place you could easily drive past without thinking twice. But that would be a mistake.

Because once you step inside, you realize pretty quickly this place has been around for a reason.

Soda Pop Junction review: A Historic Building With Character Everywhere

Before you even get to the food, the building itself deserves attention.

This place dates back to the early 1800s and has clearly lived multiple lives. From 1928 to 1978, it operated as a pharmacy, and you can still see pieces of that history today. The original oak flooring is still in place, and there’s even a 1950s soda fountain that adds to the overall feel.

However, calling it “decorated” doesn’t quite do it justice.

It’s more like organized chaos.

There are knick-knacks, antiques, and old memorabilia covering just about every surface. Walls, shelves, and even parts of the tables. The closest comparison is something like Cracker Barrel, but turned up to another level.

That said, the aesthetics don’t necessarily match the quality of the food.

And honestly, that’s part of what makes it work.

The Menu: Classic American With Plenty of Options

Soda Pop Junction isn’t just a burger joint.

They cover:

  • American classics
  • barbecue
  • breakfast
  • sandwiches
  • sides and appetizers

The menu is large enough that listing everything wouldn’t make sense, but the focus here is clearly on burgers and comfort food.

And that’s exactly what we went for.

Soda Pop Junction review: What We Ordered

We kept it simple:

  • Fried mushrooms
  • 1/3 lb cheeseburger with onion rings
  • 1/2 lb bacon cheeseburger with fries

Nothing fancy. Just a solid test of how well they execute the basics.

The Food: Where This Place Wins

Let’s start with the appetizers.

The fried mushrooms were done right. No burnt spots, no greasy mess. Just clean, golden, crispy bites that actually tasted fresh instead of frozen and rushed.

Then came the sides.

My girlfriend immediately called the onion rings the best she’s had, and after trying them, I get it. They had the perfect crunch without being overly heavy or greasy. The fries followed the same pattern, visually clean, evenly cooked, and consistent throughout.

Everything looked like it was cooked with attention, not just thrown together.

The Burgers: Award-Winning for a Reason

Now to the main event. The burgers here are legit.

You get to choose your size, and either way, they come out filling. They’re served well done with the standard toppings, mayo, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickle.

Normally, “well done” is a red flag. However, that wasn’t the case here.

The burger still came out juicy, not dried out or tough, which is harder to pull off than people think. The ingredients all worked together, and the overall bite felt balanced.

That said, there was one honest critique.

My girlfriend ordered hers without ketchup and mustard, which made it easier to focus on the beef itself. Her take was that the beef could have used a little more seasoning.

It wasn’t bad by any means, it just didn’t stand out as much on its own without the toppings carrying some of the flavor. Still, as a full burger experience, it worked.

Portion Size: You’re Not Leaving Hungry

The portions here are no joke.

Between the burgers, sides, and appetizers, we couldn’t finish everything. We ended up taking home fries and mushrooms, which says a lot about how much food you’re actually getting.

This isn’t one of those places where you leave thinking you need something else. You’re covered.

We were so full, I wanted to try one of their milkshakes to see if they lived up to the hype, but just couldn’t.

Pricing: Fair for What You Get

The total came out to around $41 for:

  • fried mushrooms
  • two burger meals
  • sweet tea and water

For Tennessee, that might feel a little high at first glance. However, when you factor in portion size, quality, and the overall experience, it doesn’t feel out of line.

This seems to be the trend lately, prices creeping up, but people still showing up because the food delivers. And here, it does.

Service: Not Perfect, But Not a Dealbreaker

The service was okay. Not terrible, but not standout either.

The main issue was the lack of communication. We had to flag down the server to get boxes, and there was some confusion around how payment worked. Instead of the usual ticket system, it seems like the waitress handles the checkout process directly.

It’s a small thing, but it would’ve been nice to know upfront instead of figuring it out at the end. That said, it didn’t ruin the experience.

Soda Pop Junction review: Recognition and Reputation

Soda Pop Junction has been featured on:

  • Food Network
  • Discovery
  • Tennessee Crossroads

They’ve also won awards for having one of the best burgers in the state.

And after eating here, it’s easy to see why.

Soda Pop Junction review: Comparing to Smash & Grab

Now let’s address the comparison.

If we’re talking strictly burgers, Smash & Grab still takes the crown for me.

That doesn’t take anything away from Soda Pop Junction.

It just means you’re comparing two very good burger spots, and one edges out the other slightly depending on preference.

Soda Pop Junction review: Is It Worth the Drive?

If you’re anywhere near Columbia or driving through the area, this is worth the stop.

It’s about 20 minutes south of Columbia, and the drive itself is solid. Nice country roads, easy to get to, and not out of the way. This isn’t just a local diner.

It’s a destination-type spot, even if it doesn’t look like one at first.

FAQ: Soda Pop Junction

Is Soda Pop Junction worth it?

Yes. The food quality and portion sizes make it worth the stop.

Are the burgers really that good?

Yes, especially as a full build with toppings. The beef could use more seasoning on its own, but overall, it works.

How big are the portions?

Large enough that you’ll probably take something home.

Is it crowded?

It can be, especially given its reputation and small-town location.

Would I Go Back?

Yeah, but only if I’m close by. No hesitation.

This is one of those places you don’t fully appreciate until you try it, and once you do, it sticks with you.

Final Verdict

Soda Pop Junction is one of those rare spots where the outside doesn’t match the food.

It looks like a small-town, cluttered, historic building, and it is, but the food coming out of the kitchen is far more dialed in than you’d expect.

You’re getting:

  • well-executed comfort food
  • strong portion sizes
  • a unique atmosphere
  • and a burger that lives up to its reputation

It may not take the top spot over Smash & Grab for me personally, but it’s close enough that the debate is worth having.
